Oriental Magpie Robin / นกกางเขนบ้าน

ที่บ้านจะมีพื้นที่เล็ก ๆ ไว้ทำสวน พอดีมีโอกาสได้ไปเดินที่สวนจัตุจักร
เห็นบ้านนกน่ารักดี ก็ได้นำมาแขวนไว้ประดับสวนสักระยะหนึ่งแล้ว
ตั้งใจจะให้นกเค้ามาทำรังจนลืม....

In my house, I have a small area for the garden. One day, I had a chance to visit 
Chutuchak market in Bangkok. 

At the market, I saw a cute birdhouse which I thought I could decorate my garden with,
so I bought it. At first I thought a bird might come and actually take residence in the
birdhouse. However, I forgot all about the thought.

วันหนึ่งขณะรดน้ำต้นไม้ ซึ่่งทำเป็นประจำทุกเช้า ก่อนไปทำงาน พลันก็
ได้ยินเสียงพรึบ..  หางตาก็ชำเลืองเห็นนกเค้าบินออกจากบ้านนกที่่อย่างตกใจ
แต่ดูไม่ทันว่าเป็นนกชนิดอะไร

One day while I was watering my plants, as I do every morning before I got to work,
I heard some noise and out of the corner of my eyes I saw a bird fly from the birdhouse
I was unable to see what kind of bird it was.

ไปส่องดูในบ้านนก ก็เจอเศษกิ่งไม้เล็ก ๆ พร้อมกับไข่ ๔ ฟอง วันที่ ๓ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๕๕

3 May 2012 
I went over to have a peak at the birdhouse, and t my amazement
I found some brush with 4 bird's eggs on it.

เห็นเจ้าของไข่แล้วครับ เป็นแม่นกกางเขน

Later on , I saw the parent of the eggs and it was

ผ่านมา ๑๓ วัน (๑๖ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๕๕) ที่ผมเฝ้ารอดูว่าไข่เค้าจะฟักเป็นตัวเมื่อไร...

สุดท้ายสัญญานแรกแห่งชีวิตก็เริ่มต้น ผมเห็นลูกนก ๒ ตัวจากไข่ที่มีอยู่ ๔ ฟอง

It took 13 days for the eggs to hatch and on the 06 May 2012
the eggs finally hatched and new life began 2 birds

We ended up with 2 chicks from the 4 eggs

After the third day, the babies opened their beaks asking for food.

เช้าวันที่ ๓ ขณะที่ถ่ายรูป สังเกตเห็นแม่นกคาบแมลงเพื่อที่จะมาป้อน

เค้าคงจะรอจังหวะให้ผมออกไปก่อนครับ

On that third day while I was taking the above photo,
I noticed that the bird's mother had got some insects
for which to feed her babies.

I think she was waiting for me to go away before beginning
the feeing process.

วันที่ ๔ ช่วงนี้เริ่มเข้าหน้าฝน ฝนตกทุกวันผมกะจะหาพลาสติกมาคลุม แต่คิดไป 

คิดมาคงไม่ทำแล้วครับ เพราะอยากให้เค้าเป็นธรรมชาติ

Day 4, it was the start of the rainy season, with rain every day.
I was thinking about covering the birdhouse with a plastic bag,
however I have changed my mind as I now think it's best
to just leave it to nature.

When the chicks sleep they sleep all in a row, side by side.

ลูกนกเข้าวันที่ ๔ แล้วยังไม่ลืมตาเลยครับ

It is now day 4 but their eyes still have not opened.

ส่วนแม่นกก็ขยันหาอาหารมาป้อนทุกวัน

The chick's mother is always looking to find food for her babies.

วันที่ ๕ วันนี้ตายังคงปิดอยู่ครับ

It's now day 5 and the chicks still haven't opened their eyes yet.

ทั้งหมดที่ผมนับได้มี ๔ ตัวจากไข่ ๔ ฟอง แสดงว่า

ไข่นี้ฟักทุกฟอง ที่นี้เรามาคอยลุ้นว่าสุดท้าย

จะเหลืออยู่กี่ตัว

Now, the other 2 eggs have also hatched which means

all 4 eggs have hatched toproduce chicks.

Let's see how many of these chicks survive.

แม่นกก็ยังคงเกาะที่เสาอากาศเหมือนทุกเช้า

แต่วันนี้สังเกตไม่เห็นคาบอาหารมาเลยครับ

The chick's mother still perches on the electrical 

aerial every morning.

However today I haven't seen her come with the food

to feed her babies which has been her usual practice.

เข้าไปใกล้ ๆ ลูกก็คอยอ้าปากขออาหาร

I went closer to see the babies and I saw 

they were all waiting to be fed.

เช้าวันที่ ๖ ทุกเช้าจะสังเกตเห็นแม่นก

เค้ามาเกาะที่เสาอากาศข้างบ้าน

Day 6 in the morning I noticed that the chick's mother

now comes and sits on the next door

neighbour's electrical aerial

เริ่มที่จะมีขนขึ้นมาแล้ว

Day 6, the babies's fur has started to grow

พอลูกนกรู้สึกได้ถึงความเคลือนไหว ก็อ้าปาก

เพื่อรออาหาร ยังไม่ได้ยินเสียงร้องครับ

When the babies feel movement, they open their beaks ready

to feed but they still don't make any noises yet.

แม่นกท่าทางจะเลี้ยงลูกเก่งนะครับ

เผลอแป๊ปเดี๋ยวก็คาบอาหารอีกมาแล้ว

The chick's mother seems to be a good carer for her babies

because frequently she comes with food for her babies.

รูปที่ถ่ายนี้จะใช้กล้อง ๒ ตัวสลับกัน กล้องคอมแพ๊คนี้

สามารถถ่ายระยะไกลได้ แล้วนำรูปมาครอปอีกที่ ส่วน

กล้องอีกตัวดีหน่อยครับ แต่มีข้อจำกัดในเรื่องเลนส์

I have 2 cameras, one for close ups the other for long distance.

This photo was taken with the long distance camera 

so I had to adjust the lens quite a bit.

But the best camera the one which  I normally use, 

is the close up camera, so I don't have to adjust the lens.

วันที่ ๖ ตอนเย็น วันนี้กลับบ้านเร็วหน่อยก็ได้ถ่าย

รูปเก็บไว้ครับ ลูกนกนอนเชิดคาง

Day 6, early evening I came home to take some photos, 

the birds were sleeping with their chins lifted up.

แม่นกก็ยังคงป้วยเปี้ยนแถวรัง

The birds's mother was still around the birdhouse.

สักพักก็สังเกตเห็นแม่นกคาบอาหารมาให้

วันนี้อาหารเย็นน่าจะเป็นจิ้งจกครับ

After a short time, I noticed the bird's mother came to

feed her babies with lizards for their dinner.

พอทำอะไรเพลิน ๆ สักพักก็นึกขึ้นได้

แอบเข้าไปดูที่บ้านนก เห็นแม่นก 

เข้านอนแล้วครับ จุ๊..จุ๊..จุ๊.. กำลังหลับ

คงเหนื่อยจากการหาอาหารมาทั้งวัน

I was keeping myself occupied, when I thought about the birds,

 so I went there quietly just to see what they were doing.

I saw the bird's mother, she was a sleep.

Sh hhh, we better keep quite.

I bet, she was so tired being out all day long 

finding food for her family.

เช้าวันที่ ๗ วันนี้สังเกตเห็นลูกนกลืมตาอ้าปากได้แล้ว

แต่ยังคงทำไม่ได้ทุกตัวครับ เข้าใจว่าลูกนกน่าจะ

มีบางตัวที่เกิดก่อนกัน ๑-๒ วัน 

Day 7 in the morning,I noticed that some of the birds can open

their eyes now and some can't, I think the reason for that is

because some were born approximately 1-2 days apart,

อาหารเช้าวันที่ ๗ ของลูกนกครับ

Day 7, breakfast for babies.

เช้าวันที่ ๘ ลูกนกหลับ ผมเริ่มยาวแล้ว

Day 8 in the morning, the babies were sleeping and I noticed that

their feathers were starting to grow.

พอได้ยินเสียงชัตเตอร์ ก็เริ่มร้องขออาหาร

วันนี้ได้ยินเสียงเด็ก ๆ แล้วครับ

When they heard my camera shutter click,

they started to cry out for food.

รูปนี้นกเขา มองแม่นกคาบอาหาร

อาหารเช้าของลูกนกวันที่ ๘ ครับ

Day 8 in the morning, the babies breakfast was 

already waiting for them.

ไปรดน้ำต้นไม้หน้าบ้าน คงแอบเอาอาหารไปให้ลูกนกแล้ว

รดน้ำยังไม่ทันเสร็จ สักพักก็เห็นแม่นกคาบอาหารมาใหม่

I went to water the plants in front of my house, and after

a short time I saw the chicks mothers return 

with new food for her chicks.

เช้าวันที่ ๙ ตอนนี้กำลังคิดว่าลูกนก

เค้าคงมีสัญชาติญานแล้วครับ

พอไปใกล้ ๆ เค้าก็จะอยู่นิ่ง ๆ

Day 9 in the morning, I think that all the chicks

have now started to mature, because when I went 

in the see them they were so quite and standing still.

อาหารเช้าวันที่ ๙ เป็นจิ้งหรีดครับ

This morning the babies' breakfast was crickets.

วันที่ ๑๐ เริ่มอยากจะรู้จักกับโลกภายนอก

Day 10, the babies are getting curious about the outside world.

อาหารมื้อเช้าของแม่นกครับ จริง ๆ เค้าคาบมานานแล้ว

แต่เข้าใจว่าคงนานเกินไป เลยเมื่อยหันไปอีกทีเห็น

เคี้ยวตุ๊ย ๆ เลย

This was the breakfast the mother brought for the babies sometime ago.

My understanding is that the food was left for too long, 

however I saw the mother eat it up quite fast.

เริ่มที่จะเห็นขนชัดเจนแล้ว

You can see the babies fur quite clearly now.

สักพักก็หาอาหารมาให้ใหม่

I think, not long now, the bird's mother will go and

find more food for the babies.

วันที่ ๑๑ เช้าวันนี้ยังคงเห็นแม่นกเกาะอยู่ที่ประจำ

แต่ยังไม่เห็นมีอาหารมาป้อนลูกนก

Day 11 in the morning, I still see the bird's mother hanging around

the same place as always, but this time, I haven't seen any

food with her to feed the babies.

ลูกนกพอจะเห็นเค้าแล้วครับ ขนเริ่มแน่น และมีสีขาวแซมบ้าง

ตามลวดลายของแม่นก สังเกตว่าบางตัวอาจจะพัฒนาไป

ไม่เท่าพี่ ๆ เพราะมีชุดหนึ่งที่เกิดก่อน ๑ - ๒ วัน

I can see the babies are growing up, their fur is getting stronger

and thicker and they have some white fur as well.

The babies's development was not all the same because some were

born 1-2 days apart.

Please look at the atmosphere outside.

วันที่ ๑๒ วันนี้สังเกตว่าเค้าจะสามารถสือสาร

กับแม่นกได้มีการส่งเสียงกันไปมา

Day 12, I notice that all the babies can now communicate with

their mother by sound, a sort of a cry.

The babies are waiting for their food.

อาหารมื้อเช้าวันที่ ๑๒ ครับ

Breakfast for day 12, in the morning.

วันที่ ๑๓ เริ่มอยากรู้อยากเห็นมากขึ้น

รูปนี้ต้องรีบถ่ายหน่อยเพราะลูกนกเริ่มที่

จะมีสัญชาติญาณของการระแวดระวัง

Day 13, they seem to be curious about the world and 

went to know and learn more and more.

I have to take this photo in a hurry as the babies are starting

to learn how to be careful and protect themselves.

พอเข้าไปใกล้ ๆ ก็จะเกาะกลุ่มแล้วทำนิ่ง ๆ เป็นหลับ

When I went to look at them closely, I could see they cuddled

close together, pretending to be a sleep.

เมื่อเช้าฝนตก รีบถ่ายไปหน่อยเก็บภาพได้ไม่เยอะ

วันนี้รีบกลับเพื่อทีจะมาถ่ายภาพเก็บไว้

Today rain came, so I had to take the photo in a hurry.

Today, I came home early so I could take more photos of them.

วันที่ ๑๓ ตอนเย็น ดูเค้าน่าจะโตเต็มที่แล้วครับ

Day 13, in the late afternoon, I think they are all fully grown now.

ยังอยู่ครบทั้ง ๔ ตัว

All 4 bird still alive 

แม่นกพร้อมอาหารมื้อเย็นครับ ภาพจะไม่ชัด

เท่าไรนะครับเพราะเริ่มที่จะมืดแล้ว

The mother bird had food tor their dinner.

This photo was quite blurry because I took it when the sun was fading.

เย็นนี้ได้ถ่ายคลิปลูกนกด้วยครับ 

สังเกตวินาทีที่ ๓๐ นะครับจะได้ยินเสียงแม่นก

กับลูกนกเค้าสื่อสารกัน

This evening, I filmed a video clip of them.

Please look carefully at this 30 second video clip;

you can see the mother and the babies 

talking to each other.

วันที่ ๑๔ แล้วครับ นี่แหละครับที่ประจำของแม่นกเค้าล่ะ

Day 14 already, this is the place where the mother bird likes to stay.

อาหารเช้าของลูกนกวันที่ ๑๔

 พยายามที่จะดูว่าเป็นอะไร แต่ดูไม่ออกครับ

This was the breakfast for the babies on day 14 in the morning.

I have tried to see what it wast but I couldn't so I'm only guessing.

รอคอย....

waiting...

บ้านนกวันนี้รู้สึกเริ่มคับแคบแล้วครับ

Today, I could see that the birdhouse was starting to get a bit too small.

วันที่ ๑๕ วันนี้สัญชาตญาณเริ่มชัดเจนขึ้น

พอเราเข้าไปใกล้ก็จะหยุดนิ่ง แล้วพอเรา

ห่างออกมาสักพักก็จะเริ่มส่งเสียง

Day 15 When I come close to them they do nothing, and when I go away

from them I can hear their voices begin again.

อาหารเช้าวันที่ ๑๕

 Day 15, Breakfast for babies 

วันที่ ๑๖ โผล่หน้าออกมาดูโลกภายนอก

ด้วยความอยากรู้อยากเห็น

Day 16, they stick their face out to see the outside world,

they are so keen and enthusiastic to know everything. 

พอเข้าไปใกล้ ๆ ก็ทำเป็นหลบเหมือนเดิม

ลูกนกเค้าโตขึ้นมากแล้วครับ ในแต่ล่ะวัน

ผมจะคอยลุ้นว่า พรุ่งนี้พอตื้นเช้ามาเค้า

จะยังอยู่กับเราหรือเปล่า ซึ่งผมก็คาดว่า

คงอีกไม่นานหรอกครับ

When I came near them, they tried to hide from me, as usual

Each day, they have grown more and more, and I am getting 
the feeling that they won't be around much longer.

I do not think it will be long before they start their own lives
outside my house.

อาหารเช้าวันที่ ๑๖ ครับ

Day 16 in the morning, the babies breakfast.

วันที่ ๑๗ วันนี้มาถ่ายรูปลูกนก ก็ต้องตกใจเล็กน้อย

ในใจก็คิดว่าถึงเวลาแล้วเหรอ...? รู้สึกใจหายครับ

แต๋ก็ผสมกับความดีใจที่นก ๓ ใน ๔ เค้าบินออก

จากบ้านนกไปแล้ว คงเหลือเพียงตัวเดียว

ตัวนี้น่าจะเกิดที่หลังครับ

Day 17, today when I came to take a photo of the birds. I was

surprised/glad to see 3 of them had flown from the birdhouse. 

Just one left and I left and I suppose that's because it was the

last one to be hatched.

ถึงแม้ว่าจะเหลือน้องเล็กสุดเพียงตัวเดียว

แต่แม่นกเค้าก็ยังคงอยู่ดูแล

Even though there was only the youngest one left,

the mother still took care of her baby.

และแล้วเช้าวันที่ ๑๘ 

ลูกนกตัวสุดท้าย เค้าก็บินออกจากรังไป

รู้สึกดีใจ ที่ได้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่ให้ที่พักพิง

แก่ครอบครัวนกตั้งแต่ทำรัง ออกไข่

ฟักเป็นลูกนก เติบโตแข็งแรงพอที่

จะบินออกจากรัง ไปแล้วหากิน

ตามวิธีชิวิตของแต่ล่ะตัว

Finally, in the morning of day 18. 

The last bird flew off the birdhouse.

I was so happy that I was a part of their lives journey.

From the day the mother bird came to the house and laid her eggs,

then the hatching of the birds to be.

เสาอากาศที่แม่นกเค้าเคยเกาะเป็นประจำ

เช้านี้ไร้วี่แววของแม่นกเหมือนอย่างที่เคยเป็น

The electric aerial that the mother bird uses to perch on was empty.

This morning, I couldn't see any sign of her at all.

ผมยังคงได้ยินเสียงลูกนกป้วนเปี้ยนอยู่แถว ๆ 

บ้านนี้แหละครับ คงต้องใช้เวลาสักพักเพื่อ

ใหเค้าปรับตัวให้เข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อม 

ก่อนพร้อมที่จะออกหากินที่ไกล ๆ 

However, I still heard the baby birds sometimes 

around my house nearby.

I think, the baby birds need time to adjust to the real

world before they can fly off and live somewhere

far way from here
